New YearŐs Impressions

My dear friends, new friends, old friends and the othersÉ

When I was a little girl, Christmas Eve was a long confusing night, full of trendy people on their best clothes, and a wonderful smell in the air, mixing good perfume and good food. There was a huge anxiety among the kids waiting for Santa, who used to arrive when we all Đ children Đ were doing something else. The magic was so big I remember seeing Santa in the back yard more than once.

It would be simply impossible to me to say that I donŐt believe in Santa Claus, because I do believe in magic.

I believe in the magic of families getting together Đ even those who have never lived under the same roof. I believe in human sympathy for others. I believe that even once a year, a tear of emotion while we hug someone can help us to be better people. I believe this is the perfect time to try not to be so obtuse, so perfectionist, so boring. And smile.

I donŐt believe in many thingsÉI do have some irreversible revolts against every religion and I do not even believe that Jesus was really born on December 25th  (he was probably born in April), or he has resurrected someday, since Emperor Constantine invented a whole story to gain power over his peopleÉbut I believe Jesus can be a wonderful excuse for us to think about other human beings and then to be better souls. ItŐs valid, as long as we do something.

I donŐt believe war would solve problems, screams would fix our lives, suffering would take us to redemptionÉI believe in the search for happiness, and it works pretty well in simple situations.

ItŐs not too much money, too much power, too much women, too much sex, too much goods, too much anything that will bring us happiness. In truth itŐs just little. Just a little love...a little peace of mindÉjust a few good faithful friendsÉa little patience, acceptance and tolerance with the ones who pass thru our lives. And this is magic.

May 2007 be the time when love wins over human nature, if itŐs really possible.
